KYOTO HOTEL ARTWORK PLAN /

Beautiful stylised documentation of the pigment making and the printing processes employed to illustrate stories of Kyoto’s other special flower ( Kerria Japonica ) and the region’s history of forest management & charcoal making ( Satoyama ). We proposed screen printing directly onto the walls, but covid stopped us from going over. Ended up working through interpreters and zoom tutorials to hand over the task of vertical screen printing to Kyoto screen printer Takafumi. Thanks to Hitomi & Hiromi for making it happen, to Takeshi Kondo for beautiful re-enactment of the creative processes, the hunt for Kerria Japonica, the making of the charcoal pigments and the artwork development, to Marina for the Ikebana garden & finding the flower, Clara for the charcoal pigments, Danica for the artwork. We all look so calm… looking for a moment to document in situ. SR

BELLFIELD / CASSIE FISHER-PATTERSON / LAUNCH HOUSING / ARM ARCHITECTURE

Film-maker Takeshi Kondo documents a meeting between the local First Nations community and artist Cassie Fisher-Patterson at Barrbunin Beek in Melbourne’s north. The charcoal from this campfire was saved to create the pigment used to print Cassie’s artwork directly onto the walls at Launch’s ground breaking social housing project in Bellfield, Melbourne.
